THE STORY

The boukanvillea, as it is its formal name, is a beautiful Creeper, an integral element of the Greek Cycladic Island landscape and not only, since we find it in many places all over Greece, such as Pilion or Crete.

The plant comes from South America, Brazil in particular. Twelve species that are natives of South America are found in the genus and owes its name to admiral and explorer Louis Antoine de Bougainville, who first crossed the Pacific Ocean. It belongs to the family of Nyctaginaceae (order Caryophyllales).

It blooms from mid-spring to early autumn with its leaves appearing first. Once the weather starts to warm from the spring on, the buds gradually begin to form.

For all of us Boukamvillea symbolises the Greek summer, the picturesque Greek landscapes and awakens memories of summer moments well spent among “pareas”.
